BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a partial sequence of body protection compound (BPC) found in human gastric juice. Preclinical research has studied its role in accelerating repair of tendon, ligament, muscle, and gastrointestinal tissue in animal models, with proposed mechanisms including promotion of angiogenesis (via VEGFR2 pathway activation), fibroblast migration, and modulation of nitric oxide signaling. It is also studied in gut-mucosa integrity and inflammatory bowel research models.
